Snowflake Sponge Painting Craft
Materials
- Snowflake craft template (available for download below)
- Sponge
- Blank paper
- Paint
- Scissors
Instructions
First, download and print out your snowflake craft template, which you can find at the bottom of this page.
Next, cut out the snowflakes on the template. There are two different kinds of snowflakes on the printable, one that is a bit easier to cut out than the other. The snowflakes also come in three different sizes.
For younger children, you’ll want to cut out the snowflakes in advance. For older children, cutting out the snowflakes can be a great scissors skills practice.
Now place the snowflake(s) onto a blank piece of paper. You can tape them down if you want them to be more secure (especially for young kids).
Cut out a small piece of a sponge and dip it in paint. Press it around the outside of the snowflake to make the outline, dipping it in more paint as necessary.
You can really use any color of paint that you want to for this. We liked the look we got from using two shades of blue.
To make the card: Either use the sponge painting process to create the outline of a snowflake on the paper, or glue one of the snowflakes that you used to create the outline on your paper. Both looks are really lovely. Color the word “snow”, cut out the card, and fold it in half. Now it’s ready for gifting!
To make an ornament: Cut out around one of your sponge-stamped snowflakes and tape or glue a piece of ribbon to the top in a loop. OR take one of your stamped snowflakes, glue it to another piece of paper and then cut around the snowflake, leaving a white border. Laminate the ornaments if you want to make them extra sturdy. Finally, glue or tape a loop of ribbon to the top. Now your easy, DIY ornament is ready to be gifted or hung on your tree!
This craft is so simple and easy to create, making it a winter favorite at our house! I hope you love this winter craft just as much as we did.
