There’s no better way to celebrate Halloween than by making some spooky Halloween watercolor art. This is a great activity for children of all ages, and adults love it too!
Choose from either our haunted house watercolor printable or our witches cauldron printable for a perfect background for your Halloween watercolor painting.
This is an open-ended art project that can be completed however the artist sees fit, leaving lots of room for creativity.
When I did this craft with my kids, they were so excited to make their own background for the Halloween scene and each had their own idea of how they wanted it to look.
And the best part is that when you’re done, you’re left with some really cool looking art that you can use to decorate your house or classroom for Halloween!
Halloween Watercolor Painting
Materials
- Halloween scene printables
- Cardstock paper
- Watercolor paint
- Paintbrush
Instructions
First you’re going to need to download the Halloween scene printable that you want to use. You can choose from either the haunted house watercolor printable or the witches cauldron watercolor printable. Or both if you’re feeling ambitious!
Once you’ve downloaded the printable, print it out on cardstock paper. It’s important that you use cardstock because regular printer paper does not hold up well to the watercolor paint. It has a tendency to tear and the end result just doesn’t look quite as good.
Once you’ve printed out the printable, grab your watercolors and get painting! Really the sky is the limit here and you can make you’re Halloween watercolor scene look any way that you want to.
I’ve found that it’s helpful to do the lighter colors first, like the moon and the windows or jack o’ lanterns. Because it’s a silhouette background, you can paint right over the black parts, making your job even easier!
If you have a white border around the edges from printing, trim that off for a cleaner look.
Once you’ve completed your Halloween watercolor painting, let it dry and then hang it up somewhere to enjoy for the Halloween season!
