- Pipe cleaner (optional)
Instructions
Start by downloading our free umbrella craft template and printing it out. This will give you a perfect base to work from.
Decide whether you want to make a rain umbrella or a beach umbrella. Pick tissue paper colors accordingly. For a rain umbrella, you might choose blues and grays. For a beach umbrella, go for bright and vibrant colors like yellow, pink, and green.
Cut the tissue paper into small squares or strips. This is a great step for kids to practice their cutting skills!
Whether you’re using the rainy day template or the template for the stand-alone umbrella, begin gluing pieces of crinkled tissue paper onto the sections of the umbrella. We’ve found it easiest to cover a small section in glue and then stick pieces of tissue paper to the glue.
Continue until the entire umbrella is covered in tissue paper.
If you’re using the rainy day template, cover the clouds in grey tissue paper and add pieces of blue tissue paper to the page to represent the rain. And your craft is done!
For the stand-alone umbrella, cut out the umbrella.
Cut a pipe cleaner in half and tape one piece of the pipe cleaner to the back of the umbrella as the handle. Curve the end to look more handle-like.
And just like that, your craft is complete. Hang your beautiful tissue paper umbrellas on the wall, fridge, or in a window to brighten up your home or classroom!
This tissue paper umbrella craft is a wonderful way to spend quality time with your kids while encouraging their creativity and fine motor skills.
Plus, it’s a versatile project that can be adapted for different themes and seasons.
