Instructions

To start off, you’ll want to download and print out the heart printable template. You can sign up to receive the printable at the bottom of this page.

The printable comes with a page of heart outlines and two different cards, one that reads “Happy Valentine’s Day” and the other “I Love You With All My Heart”.

Cut out a small piece of sponge (around 1″x1″) and get it a little damp if it’s too dry.

Now there are a few different ways to do this craft depending on if you want to solely do the sponge painting or if you want to make the cards, which I’ll explain below.

Sponge Painting

To do the heart sponge painting, you have two different options.

First of all, you can paint directly onto the page of hearts. Just dip your sponge in paint and gently press it onto the page over the hearts. You can mix colors here or pick on specific color, get creative! Once you’re done, you can leave your page as is or cut out your hearts to use for decoration.

Another option is to make heart outline on your paper. To do this, start by cutting out the hearts.

Next, use some tape (painters tape works well) on the back of each heart to secure it onto a blank piece of paper. Using your sponge dipped in paint, press around the outside of each heart, overlapping with the blank page. Continue until each heart is surrounded by paint.

Let the paint dry. Once the paint is completely dry, carefully remove each of the hearts from the page. Now you’re left with some lovely heart outlines! And as a bonus, you also have the paint covered hearts as well!

Heart Cards

Your other option is to make heart cards! Pick which card you want to paint. One is Valentine’s Day specific and the other could be used for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or any other special occasion.

Your first option here is to sponge paint directly onto the heart outlines and then cut out the heart(s) you want to use and glue them to the card.

Use markers to color in the outlines in the text.

Cut along the dotted line and fold the paper in half. Now you have an adorable card to gift!

You second option is to cut out the hearts, tape the ones you want to use onto the front of the card template, and then sponge paint around the edges of the heart(s).

Let the card dry and then carefully remove the hearts. Now you’re left with lovely heart outlines on your card!

Once again, use markers to color in the block text, cut along the dotted lines, and fold the paper in half.

Whichever method you use, the end result for this simple craft is so sweet and perfect for gifting!
